Si tratta di un sax tenore Conn Artist Virtuoso Deluxe del 1925, con il corpo argentato e una voce eccezionale. Lo strumento ha una storia molto originale. È stato acquistato nel 1995 in una bancarella di Portobello a Londra per pochi soldi perché versava in condizioni critiche. Il corpo era completamente ossidato e la campana schiacciata. Nel riparare e sostituire i tamponi dello strumento, ci siamo accorti che all’interno delle tazze di alcune chiavi c’erano dei segni. Ad un primo esame sembravano dei graffi, forse prodotti da un cacciavite od un attrezzo maldestramente usato per rimuovere i precedenti tamponi, invece, ad un esame più attento, si rivelarono dei versi: una dedica d’amore. Una poesia che l’incisore aveva realizzato dedicando lo strumento ad una donna per la quale evidentemente nutriva un grande sentimento d’amore: “Mary, only for you i play this saxophone every day. Only for You”
This is a 1925 Conn Artist Virtuoso Deluxe tenor sax, with a silver body and an exceptional voice. The instrument has a very original story. It was purchased in 1995 at a stall in Portobello in London for very little money because it was in critical condition. The body was completely oxidized and the bell was crushed. When repairing and replacing the pads on the instrument, we noticed that there were marks inside the cups of some keys. At first glance, they seemed to be scratches, perhaps caused by a screwdriver or a tool clumsily used to remove the previous pads, but upon closer inspection, they turned out to be verses: a love dedication. A poem that the engraver had created dedicating the instrument to a woman for whom he evidently had a great feeling of love: “Mary, only for you I play this saxophone every day. Only for You”
