Il grande successo riscosso degli strumenti Sax minaccia molte case costruttrici tanto che queste si associano per difendere i propri interessi ed iniziano una martellante campagna denigratoria e di boicottaggio. Vengono diffuse voci su presunti plagi di brevetti; le invenzioni di Sax vengono dipinte come semplici “miglioramenti”; la fabbrica Sax subisce numerosi furti ed incendi; molti musicisti scioperano contro l’utilizzo di strumenti Sax. L’inventore belga viene costretto ad interminabili cause legali per vedere riconosciuti i propri diritti o per difendersi dalle accuse dei suoi detrattori. I tribunali gli danno ragione, ma il suo morale è fiaccato, così come le sue finanze, tanto che nel 1852 è costretto a dichiarare fallimento. E in seguito succederà altre due volte. Addirittura, si arriverà anche a tentare di ucciderlo… ma la sua fama di genialità è meritata e sempre viva e gli permetterà di conseguire ripetute premiazioni ed onorificenze ad ogni nuova invenzione presentata, perfino in edilizia o in campo ferroviario.
In the mid-19th century, the great success of Sax instruments threatened many manufacturers, so much so that they decided to join forces to defend their interests and began a relentless smear and boycott campaign against Adolphe Sax. Rumors spread about his alleged patent plagiarism, his inventions were described as “simple improvements”, his factory suffered numerous thefts and fires and even many musicians were even paid not to play his instruments. The Belgian inventor was forced into interminable lawsuits to have his rights recognized and to defend himself from the accusations of his detractors. The courts ruled in his favor, but his morale was weakened, as were his finances, so much so that in 1852 he was forced to declare bankruptcy. And it would happen twice more later. In fact, they even tried to kill him… but his fame for genius is deserved and still alive and will allow him to obtain further prizes and honors for each new patented invention, even in the construction and railway fields.
